her heart is raw
it screamed too much,
she said,
her eyes flickering around the room.
she's never been one for goodbyes.
She turns her head
as a tear slides down her cheek,
and she rubs at it, annoyed.
She knows it's not forever,
but it hurts all the same.
She feels betrayed,
but by whom she's not sure.
Herself, perhaps.
the walls he broke through
start to come back up
drawn about her
to protect her from affection.
When you don't love,
she says,
I imagine that it's hard to get hurt.
She leans in
and her whisper tickles his ear
I'm afraid, she says,
to lose you.
Her breath is warm.
I'm afraid to let you go.
There's green eyeliner
running down her cheeks.
She draws a shaky breath
and gently slips past him.
Minutes later
she returns with red eyes
and clean cheeks.
So how about pizza?
She asks.
